Windows Media Player Vista Does Not Work

Windows Media Player will not play anything. Built my new computer, installed windows 7 Home Premium. Tried to use WMP after everything updated and it will not play any files. Installed i. Tunes, Divx, VLC Player and all work fine. Error Message Windows Media Player cannot play the file.
